A review of Waterside Wine Bar by Anne Johns written on Friday 1st of June 2012
I ordered the green noodle salad. Nearly half of the ingredients listed in the menu were missing. The dressing was just olive oil when the menu stated olive oil, lemon and basil. I took the dish back and explained that ingredients were missing and was given a replacement. Again, listed ingredients were missing but this time the olive oil was joined by tasteless dried mixed herbs. Again I complained and was given my money back. I can only assume that the missing ingredients were not available in the kitchen and the chef was incapable of making the listed dressing. In this situation the dish should have been withdrawn from the menu. My companion fared even worse with the veggie kebabs. Service at the bar was unacceptably slow for a work place venue where office workers have a limited lunch hour. I had expected far better for the amount being charged and the offer of a 10% discount for a further meal was derisory and I will not risk eating there again. I appreciate it is early days for the winebar but surely the first few days are the most important for establishing a new venue. On the plus side, the bar served a very decent Pinot Grigio. .
